Intro to Discipleship for Pru-Pru

This is the Day One of the Devos that I gave to my d-ship baby

Read Jeremiah 1:4-8, 19

I lied to you when we Skyped on April 21st. One, I told you that I wouldn’t give you these sheets. And Two, I told you that Day One would consist of Day Three’s material. I’m going to give you these devotionals anyway, and you can start whenever.

I gave you a lot of stuff to do. I probably gave you more things than any discipler has ever given to her disciplee. I was so excited about guiding you in your walk that I forgot about your feelings. You may feel some pressure from me. As a result you may pressure yourself to grow more. Thus, you may get disappointed if you’re not growing as fast as you want to.

I’m honestly sorry if I gave you that feeling. Everyone’s walk is different. Please understand that all I want to do is love you.

“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant o rude. It does not insist in its own way; it is not irritable or resentful.”—1 Corinthians 13:4-5 (emphasis added)

Although I am everything but what Paul says is love, I will not insist in my own way of doing things. I will also be patient with you. Please be patient with yourself too! This is your walk and your desire to grow. I will do what I can to help you. If it comes off as intimidating or overwhelming, I hope that this Jeremiah passage will encourage you.

If you read the Jeremiah passage, the Lord appears before Jeremiah and overwhelms him with love. God knew him before he knitted him in his mother’s womb. That love proclaimed to this prophet also applies to us.

Immediately after, God sent Jeremiah to be a ‘prophet to the nations’ (v. 5). Jeremiah’s response was very human and very honest; he basically said, ‘God why are you sending me? I suck at speaking and I’m young!’

Isn’t this how you sometimes feel? I do. When God calls us, he knows that we don’t feel ready; he’s aware of our weaknesses. He calls us anyway to learn and to do his good works. No matter how much we struggle in these situations, God assures that he will be there every step of the way and protect you from harm’s way.

Therefore darling, please don’t feel overwhelmed or scared. God will be with you every step of your walk. He will overflow you with love and continue shaping your heart into his. Although this means that temptations will still come, he will never test you beyond what you can bear.
