Day Two For Pru-Pru

Read John 6:1-14 Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand

After writing Day One’s devotional, I thought that I’d expand on the idea of ‘not feeling ready’.

I’m not gonna lie. God can be pretty intimidating. Whenever he reveals small aspects of himself to us, we cannot help but feel so small. What’s worse is that after feeling meek and small, he then calls us to do big things.

You’ve heard about today’s passage many times. It’s a common Sunday school message that you heard as a kid. But I want to emphasize a point in this story.

Verse 10 says that there were five thousand MEN who sat down and prayed. Back in those days, only men were counted. The five thousand men did not include women and children. In actuality, there were probably FIFTEEN THOUSAND PEOPLE in the crowd.

Let’s be honest here. If you and your family decided to follow Jesus in the wilderness, you’d bring food. Even if it’s something that ties you over, such as CLIF bars or beef jerky. Although it is not explicitly stated in Scripture, I think that some people in the crowd had food.

But the only person who was willing to offer his food to Jesus was a young boy. This boy wasn’t included in the five thousand. He technically didn’t count in the group. Yet Jesus took the small amount that he had to offer and multiplied it to feed approximately fifteen thousand people.

You may say to yourself, “I don’t even count in the group. I’m young and I have little experience. I don’t think I’m capable of learning.”

From this passage, I think Jesus would respond, “I know you don’t even count in the group. I know you’re young and have little experience. I know you do not feel capable of learning. But, give me what you have, however little it may be, and I will multiply your works. With the little that you give me, I will multiply it and use it to take care of my people.”

So whatever little you may think you have, I encourage you to give it to God. You have no idea how your small offering to God can be a huge contribution to his kingdom.
